Brussels, 16 April 2014 – Today marks the launch of a common self-assessment questionnaire to assess the sustainability performance of suppliers in the automotive sector.
This common tool is the product/outcome of successful collaboration amongst ten automotive manufacturers in the European Automotive Working Group on Supply Chain Sustainability. The Group, facilitated by CSR Europe, shares the common goal of working together to improve the sustainability performance of automotive supply chains.
This joint questionnaire will serve as a first self-assessment of supplier performance on CSR/ Sustainability topics in areas such as social and environmental sustainability, business conduct and compliance, and supplier management. The tool is based on the Automotive Industry Guiding Principles to Enhance Sustainability Performance in the Supply Chain.
The automotive industry has complex value chains and a deep structured supplier base and as such, there are promising benefits of adopting a common approach towards suppliers. The active uptake of the common questionnaire by all participating automotive OEMs will avoid duplication and result in efficiency gains for both the OEMs and their suppliers. Individual companies can also choose to complement the common questionnaire with more detailed company specific tools.
The questionnaire is now being actively used amongst Working Group members with various levels of implementation. It is available for any automotive company to use in the development of relationships and sustainable sourcing with automotive manufacturers and suppliers.
