BRUSSELS (Belgium), February 05, 2019 – In 2018, Drive Sustainability and the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) jointly published Material Change, a study that gathers, analyses and presents publicly available information on a set of materials commonly used in the automotive and electronics industries.

For 2019, the two organisations have agreed to align further in order to promote the use of shared tools as well as to strengthen capacity building for responsible sourcing practices along the mineral supply chain.

The RMI and Drive Sustainability are looking to leverage the Risk Readiness Assessment (RRA) platform to strengthen training and capacity building. The RRA is a voluntary self-assessment and self-reporting tool for any minerals and metals producers and processors to assess and communicate their environmental, social and governance management practices and performance, across 31 issue areas. Since its launch by the RMI in 2017, over 650 assessments have been shared between supply chain actors covering eight different metals.

Analysing the aggregated scores for issue areas, geography and materials, the RMI and Drive Sustainability will identify areas for e-learning, training and capacity building. Such learning tools will allow the two organizations to provide tailored support to local context according to most critical environmental, social and governance risks identified.
